My thesis statement focuses on how BoJack Horseman implements animalistic qualities into their characters to create more vulnerability between the audience, weighing heavier on how the perceive the show. I am excited to dive into the physical attributes of BoJack, a horse, Mister PeanutButter, a dog, and Princess Carolyn, a cat, to discuss what about their animal qualities somehow makes them even more relatable to human viewers. I will conduct my literature review looking for sources that will help me unpack mental illness, substance abuse, and other factors that lead to issues in Hollywood celebrities, and how viewers can relate to their stress. Also, I will look at sources that explain biological aspects of the three mentioned animals, in addition to their normally accepted metaphorical explanations in literature. Overall, I believe the creativity and originality of my thesis is strong, and I only worry it will be difficult to reach the 3,000 word requirement for word count on a topic where I'm basically just discussing why the look of an animal makes for a more innocent connection to their audience - only time will tell if this will weaken my paper!
