I did think a lot about how John reminds me somewhat of Boo Radley, so it was especially satisfying to me in this chapter when Brian referred to John as the To Kill A Mockingbird character. A lot of the small, country-town imagery in this story gives me a lot of connections to Harper Lee's portrayal of a similar setting in her novel. Not to mention, the obvious parallels in solving a crime in a corrupt judicial system.
As far as text to world connections go, there was a huge uptick in the "lost" motif I picked up on from Chapter 1. This chapter did a lot of the busy work that was set up mysteriously in the first part, in addition to outlining why some of the featured characters are who they are. Obviously, this trapped, mentally unstable emotion is common in a small Alabamian town in the middle of nowhere without much going for it. This reoccurrence of sadness, loneliness, and lack of solution seemed to conveniently build up to the suicide announcement at the finale of this section - that was surely not a coincidence on the podcast's part.
